Montessori Preschool Lead Teacher (ECE)
OVERVIEW
The Montessori Preschool Lead Teacher (ECE) is responsible for creating a calm, welcoming, and well-organized classroom environment that supports the learning and well-being of children ages 3–6.
In this role, the Guide prepares thoughtful materials, offers gentle and developmentally appropriate guidance, and supports children as they build independence, social skills, and emotional regulation.
The position includes observing and documenting each child’s progress, maintaining clear and supportive communication with families, collaborating closely with the teaching team, and upholding all health, safety, and Alberta licensing standards to ensure a safe and nurturing learning space while ensuring active supervision and a safe, responsive environment at all times.
REPORTING
The Montessori Preschool Lead Teacher (ECE) reports directly to the Director, Flourish Montessori Learning Academy.
REQUIREMENTS
A Level 2 or 3 Early Childhood Educator certification and a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education is required for this role, along with 3 years of experience in early learning or childcare.
Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience working in a Montessori-inspired practice.
The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, highly organized, and possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.
A satisfactory background check, Vulnerable Sector Check, and a valid Emergency First Aid Certificate are also required.
DUTIES
The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Follow all Alberta licensing requirements, safety procedures, and emergency protocols, ensuring active supervision, ratio compliance, and a safe, responsive environment at all times
- Create and maintain a calm, organized, and welcoming classroom environment that supports children’s well-being and development
- Lead the planning and implementation of the classroom program in collaboration with the Director
- Prepare and maintain engaging, developmentally appropriate materials and support both Montessori-inspired and play-based learning
- Support children’s development through gentle guidance, fostering independence, emotional regulation, and positive social interactions
- Observe, document in a timely manner, and support each child’s development, maintaining accurate records using Lilio and reporting concerns in accordance with centre policies and licensing requirements
- Build strong, respectful relationships with families through daily communication, and act as the primary point of contact for the classroom, including handling sensitive conversations professionally
- Support and guide team members within the classroom, fostering consistency, collaboration, and a positive team environment
- Follow daily routines and support transitions including arrival, outdoor time, meals, rest, and departure, including outdoor play, walks, and community outings or field trips
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment and respond appropriately to illness, incidents, and emergencies
- Support overall centre operations, including assisting in other classrooms and contributing to administrative tasks such as enrollment, open houses, and classroom setup
