OVERVIEW
The Montessori Toddler Teacher (ECE) is responsible for supporting toddlers through a dynamic stage of growth in language, movement, and independence within a Montessori-inspired environment, while ensuring active supervision and a safe, responsive environment at all times.
This role involves guiding children as they assert independence, navigate emotions, and develop early social skills, while maintaining a nurturing, consistent presence.
REPORTING
The Montessori Toddler Teacher (ECE) reports directly to the Director, Flourish Montessori Learning Academy.
REQUIREMENTS
A Level 1 Early Childhood Educator certification is required for this role, along with 2 years of experience in early learning or childcare, specifically with toddlers.
Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience working in a Montessori-inspired practice.
The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, highly organized, and possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.
A satisfactory background check, Vulnerable Sector Check, and a valid Emergency First Aid Certificate are also required.
DUTIES
The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Follow all Alberta licensing requirements, safety procedures, and emergency protocols, ensuring active supervision, ratio compliance, and a safe, responsive environment at all times
- Provide warm, attuned, relationship-based care and create a calm, nurturing, and predictable environment for each child
- Support children’s development through gentle guidance, fostering independence in movement, early language, and self-help skills
- Follow each child’s individual rhythms for feeding, sleeping, toileting, and daily routines
- Guide toddlers through routines with warmth, patience, and clear expectations
- Observe, document, and support each child’s development, maintaining accurate records using Lillio and reporting concerns in accordance with centre policies and licensing requirements
- Build strong, respectful relationships with families through consistent, warm communication
- Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary environment, responding appropriately to illness, incidents, and emergencies
- Prepare and maintain a safe, engaging, and organized environment with developmentally appropriate materials and activities
- Support daily routines and transitions including arrival, outdoor time, meals, rest, and departure, including outdoor play, sensory exploration, and walks as appropriate
- Support overall centre operations, including assisting in other classrooms and contributing to administrative tasks such as events, open houses, and classroom setup
